Nancy is a Tax Principal focused on providing tax services to nonprofit multi-entity healthcare systems, universities, academic medical centers, and other tax-exempt organizations. She is KPMG’s Lead Principal for Healthcare Tax Services for tax-exempt organizations, and has more than 20 years’ experience providing tax consulting and compliance services.
Nancy’s experience includes the research and resolution of complex tax matters related to income tax, excise tax, and employment tax issues, in the exempt organization healthcare and university settings including providing advice and recommendations on joint ventures and other organizational structures involving tax-exempt health systems and taxable entities, reorganization and restructuring transactions involving tax-exempt and taxable entities, special tax issues regarding intercompany transactions between tax-exempt and taxable entities, preparation of private letter ruling requests and closing agreements for submission to the IRS, obtaining tax-exempt status, debt-financed property matters, dealing with excess benefit transactions, supporting organization matters, international expansion of healthcare operations, proper treatment and reporting of revenue generating transactions, lobbying restrictions, employment tax compliance matters, employee/independent contractor classification, employee and director compensation issues, planning for unrelated business taxable income, state sales, use tax issues and state charitable solicitation registration filings.
Nancy is a contributing author to leading nonprofit publications such as The NonProfit Times, Taxation of Exempts, Philanthropy Journal, as well as other national and regional nonprofit publications. Nancy has served as a speaker on nonprofit taxation topics at professional tax conferences sponsored by groups such as the HFMA, American Health Lawyers Association, ALI-ABA, the AICPA, the Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA), Washington Non-Profit Legal and Tax Conference, and the Georgetown University Law Center.
