Shelly is a tax director in PwC’s National Tax Services Exempt Organizations Tax Services group with over 15 years of experience providing specialized tax consulting and compliance services to tax exempt clients.
Although Shelly is located in Washington DC, her client base extends beyond the DC metropolitan region and includes clients in Kansas City, Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. She has experience serving various types of tax-exempt organizations including private foundations, hospitals, museums, trade organizations, conservation organizations, supporting organizations, medical research organizations, and educational institutions.
Shelly is a specialist at providing compliance and planning services for tax-exempt organizations. She spends much of her time guiding private foundations of all sizes in her role as PwC’s subject matter specialist on private foundations. She also has extensive experience with the redesigned Form 990 and specializes in coordinating compliance services for large diversified portfolios and organizations that include tax-exempt entities and their for-profit subsidiaries. Her other areas of expertise include advising hospitals on 501(r) requirements, charitable planning, supporting organizations, private foundation excise taxes, executive compensation, the operation of for-profit subsidiaries, joint ventures with for-profit businesses, the calculation of public support, governance of tax-exempt entities, alternative investment review, and unrelated business income tax. She is a frequent instructor and presenter on issues affecting exempt organizations.
Shelly is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Virginia and the District of Columbia, and she is a member of the AICPA. She graduated with a B.B.A. in Accounting and a secondary concentration in Economics from the College of William and Mary and obtained her M.S. in Taxation from American University.
